Lackisha Freeman

General Manager, WNCU-FM

Lackisha S. Freeman is a proud native of North Carolina.  She attended North Carolina Central University where she obtained both her bachelor’s degree and her Juris Doctor.

She is currently the general manager of WNCU-FM in Durham, North Carolina.  WNCU-FM is a 50,000 watt jazz public radio station broadcasting from the campus of North Carolina Central University, its licensee.

Freeman is responsible for the supervision and management of the overall operations of WNCU 90.7 FM.  She heads the training program at WNCU for mass communication students interested in radio broadcast.

Freeman has a passion for public broadcasting and community outreach.  Hence, she chose a career in public radio, which enhances the daily lives of her community through arts and culture.  She has worked at WNCU for over 16 years in various roles.

Freeman serves as vice president on the board of directors for the National Federation of Community Broadcasters.  She previously served on the advisory board for NFCB’s African American Public Radio Project.  Freeman has also served on review panels for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Endowment for the Arts.  She is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.  Freeman recently served on the board of directors for North Carolina Community Shares as vice president in her local community.
